SK E&C won the first overseas communication contract exclusively, USD 34 Mil(KRW 39 Bil) business to build a communication system in Qatar in the Middle East.

This project is to construct a communication system between oil refineries and petrochemical plants in Dukhan oilfield, located 95km to the west from Doha, the capital of Qatar.  Qatar Petroleum, a national petroleum company in Qatar placed this order and the construction period is 30 months, starting at the end of October and finishing in April 2013.

In 1,500 ㎢ Dukhan oilfield, there currently are 81 oil refineries and petrochemical plants which belong to the national petroleum company of Qatar.   SK E&C will replace old communication equipment in each facility and newly build a state-of-the art IT system for better communication among facilities as well as strengthened security and close managing of the facilities.

Winning this contract is significant in that SK E&C has pioneered a new market in construction, on the basis of its achievement in plant EPC(Engineering, procurement and construction) which is its strength.  This project is to construct a communication system in the plants as well as among plants, unlike regular communication projects.

SK E&C has succeeded in going overseas not only in the plant field but also civil engineering and architecture, with its effort to diversify its business area since last year.  With this project, it has extended to overseas in the communication field and created a more stable portfolio in the world construction market.
